SPECIAL EVENTS

Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Coffeehouse -Annual event that is an eclectic blend of seriousness and fun- skits, dramatic readings, talent, etc

Singers from H.L. Neblett Center

Fall Hunger Event (CROP Walk)- Organized and helped to coordinate Owensboro's first CROP Walk in October 2005 with several other local churches. This event raises funds for international and local hunger-fighting programs.The 2006 events was sponsored by 13 Owensboro churches.

OXFAM Hunger Banquet- An educational and fundraising event with all proceeds going to OXFAM Hunger Relief. Co-sponsored with First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), New Hope United Church of Christ, and Sierra Club.

Cultural Film Festivals- The films are internationally renowned full-length feature films shown on a large screen TV with English subtitles, discussion follows each film. "Czech it Out" six films from the Czech Republic ; "A Week of Feasting" three films from around the world featuring food themes ; "A Week of India" three award winning films from India.

Social Issues - Denounce Torture Program / Prayer Vigil- In conjunction with Amnesty International's Denounce Torture Sunday. At our first event Rodney Berry presented his reflections on the autobiography of Dr. Dianna Ortiz and Rev. Bill Moore shared his experiences as a missioner and activist for justice. The second event was a thoughtful and prayerful reflection on torture and concluded with presentation by Suzanne Sims, O.S.U. educator, activist for justice, friend and Maple Mount colleague of Sr. Dianna Ortiz. Documentary Film Festival: Spirituality and Social Issues- Seven films on major world religions and ten films on social issues. The social topics included "School of the Americas," international politics of food, arms sales and world poverty, drilling for oil in Alaska's refuge, and children's issues in the third world. (4/05)

Peace Coalition- Our church hosted a local group that spoke out against the rush to war before the invasion of Iraq. Fun & Frolicking Sunday Lunch Out- After the main service several go out to a local restaurant together.

Ice crème social Potlucks

Talent Show Halloween party "Give Peace a Dance"- An evening for peacemakers to gather for some lighthearted fun! Put on your tie-dyes, bring the kids, teens, and grandparents and cut a rug dancing to the popular tunes of the last 40 years. Part of the proceeds goes to Amnesty International.Annual eventat UUCO.

Arts and Crafts Workshop- One day workshops, done annually, - -Making Garden Stones, Beading & Jewelry Techniques, Watercolor Techniques, and Basics of Perspective Drawing.
